Chef Rodelio

Yi Cuisine

Yi Cuisine on 3rd Street in Los Angeles is one of many of the city's Asian-fusion restaurants, which concentrate on esoteric ingredients and dishes from the Pacific Rim. But that's where the similarities end — Yi Cuisine takes the "esoteric" to a higher level. A perfect example is Executive Chef Rodelio Aglibot's sublime dessert creation, Avocado Mousse, which is served in a hollowed-out avocado over Leche-flavored shaved ice and raspberry sauce. The dessert is one of the most original and tasty in LA.

Located within walking distance of the popular outdoor mall, The Grove, Yi Cuisine is the perfect place to go after a movie or shopping expedition–without having to drive more (rarity in LA). The warm earth-toned woods mixed with the classy ambiance and simple Asia-chic interior, provide a comfortable environment for dating, business engagements, or a fun get-together with friends.

On the occasion of POWER's visit, Rodelio, who formerly worked as the Executive Chef at Koi, presented dish after dish of his personal favorites. We started with the Nine Bites sampler of appetizers (dishes change depending on the Chef's mood and ingredient availability). Our personal favorite, however, came next: the American Kobe Beef Tartar on Caramelized Rice Cakes. There's nothing quite like biting into a strip of beef and having it melt in your mouth as fine sushi would–it's magnificent. For a main dish, try the Tandori-inspired Chilean Sea Bass with Curried Cauliflower Puree, or the Filipino-style Chicken Adobo–both are sure to please. Yi Cuisine is also well known for its "Dim Sum Tuesdays".
