Elton John and Partner David Furnish Marry!

It was the same day the law that officially recognizes same-sex relationships and the pension, inheritance and social security rights married couples enjoy went into effect in Great Britain.

Dressed in traditional black suits, the couple, greeted by a mob of fans and supporters, arrived at the 17th century Guildhall, the site of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles Apr. 9, 2005 wedding. The rocker’s mother and stepfather, Sheila and Fred Farebrother, and the film producer’s parents, Gladys and Jack, attended the 45-minute service.

John and Furnish exchanged two precious white gold Chopard bands composed of emerald-cut D flawless diamonds. Their names were engraved in diamonds on the inside of the bands.

The newlyweds left Guildhall at a quarter to noon and were welcomed with a cloud of confetti and paparazzi cameras flashng. Jubilant, John said the ceremony went well. The couple returned to their black Rolls Royce to attend their lavish reception at their country home mansion.

High-profilers Donatella Versace, George Michael, Elizabeth Hurley, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Victoria Beckham, Lulu, Cilla Black, Claudia Schiffer, Michael Caine, Boris Becker, Ringo Starr, Barbara Bash, and Helena Carter and Tim Burton were among 700 guests invited to the US $1.8 million banquet.

John and Furnish met at one of the singer’s dinner parties in October 1993. The knighted composer was previously married to German music sound engineer Renate Blauel for three years. They divorced in 1987.

Tori Spelling Is Engaged!

Tori Spelling, who played lovable fashionista Donna on the 1990s hit series Beverly Hills 90210 and veteran Canadian television/movie actor Dean McDermott recently announced their engagement. The news comes three months after Spelling’s husband, writer/actor Charlie Shanian, filed for divorce. The couple, whose US $1 million wedding was held at legendary television producer--and Tori’s father--Aaron Spelling’s lavish Beverly Hills mansion, was married for over a year.

The Canadian actor and the 90210 diva met earlier this year in Ottawa while filming the television movie, Mind Over Murder. According to People Magazine, McDermott proposed to Spelling on Christmas Eve at a Christmas tree farm near Toronto. In a horse-drawn carriage, the couple arrived to a trail of lights arranged by McDermott’s sister, which led to a table for two surrounded by decorated Christmas trees. He presented Spelling with a diamond and sapphire ring.

McDermott recently separated from his wife of 12 years, Canadian television personality Mary Jo Eustace. They have two children.
